AT ANY COST

Calculations in an Excel Spreadsheet

For this assignment, you will be using Excel produce a high quality one-page spreadsheet of the number and costs of various things in this room. You will supply the numbers, and I will supply the costs. You will have to first collect data about different items in this room, then enter them into a spreadsheet, and finally calculate the totals of how much all the things cost. You will also have to calculate tax and the grand totals. Be careful, this is a tricky assignment!

 Guidelines:

-It must contain the following headings list, justified center (LEAVE A1 BLANK):

# of computers

 # of windows

  # of doors

   # of stools

# of electrical cords

-It must contain the following list in the FIRST column, justified left:

West wall

East wall

North wall

South Wall

Total # of Items

Price of each item

Subtotal

State Tax

Grand Total

Super Grand Total

-You need to use formulas to get your cell answers.  Here are some clues:

***Total items:  Add up all the items on each wall using a sum formula.

***Price of item:  Use the following chart to find the prices:

Computer

1299.99

Window

299.99

Door

149.99

Stool

39.99

Electrical Cord

1.47

Remember--you will have to use the formulas we learned to add up the totals.  Do not add in your head or use a calculator!!!

***Sub-total:  Multiply the number of items cell by the price. Use a formula!

***State Tax:  Multiply the Sub-total by .09

***Grand Total: Add the sub-total cell and the tax cell together.

*****Final Grand Total: Add all grand total cells together

-You must display all price cells in “currency” format, and make sure to justify them to the right.

-Color your table using either colors or auto-format.  Each of the sections should have a different color, and be easy to read.

-Extra credit:  Imagine there are no doors or windows in the room, just walls. Then calculate how much BLUE PAINT is on each wall. Enter the data into your table, and then calculate the cost assuming that blue paint costs 13 cents per square foot! Worth 10 points.
